So, in this post im gonna tell you about Tarakan. I was born there. Tarakan is a small town from the newest province in Indonesia. Which is, North Kalimantan. Tarakan is so small that you cant even see it in the map. Eventhough, Tarakan just a small town but Tarakan is one of the richest town in Indonesia.

The names of Tarakan comes from the Tidung language Tarak (meeting place) and ngakan (to eat). Thus Tarakan was originally a meeting place for sailors and traders in the Tidung are to eat, rest and trade their catch.

Iraw Tengkayu


The most famous Tarakan culture is Iraw Tengkayu. Iraw Tengkayu is a ceremony that usually held by the Tidung tribe to show their thankfulness about their catch. This ceremony held every two years.

Iraw Tengkayu is a boat washed ceremony. The boat colour is consist of yellow, green, and red colour. The yellow colour is symbolize something that exalted and glorified.

Culinary

1.       Kepiting Soka

This soft-shelled crabs have a different texture than other crabs. This soft-shelled crabs soft-textured and soft. So all parts of this crab can be consumed without having to throw away the legs and claws first. Usually soft-shelled crab is often cooked stir-fry sauce or fried flour so it is more savory and delicious to eat.

Soft-shelled crabs are very popular with foodies sea food, because the soft-shelled crabs do not bother to eat it because the skin does not need to be set aside, their nutritional value is also higher, particularly containing chitosan and carotenoids which are commonly found in the shells of crabs serves to absorb fat and cholesterol, in addition to racun- other toxins, everything is edible.
2.       Kapah

Sauté kapa is also a favorite food of the typical town of Tarakan. Kapa is a type of sea shells that are rich in protein. Kapa usually a lot of life in the muddy sea. Kapa own usual cooked by pan-fried with spices selection. This kapa very tasty saute until you are tried to be hooked.
